FYI: Lieutenant Governor welcomed eight remarkable citizens to Alberta Order of Excellence
One of the citizens was Bill Bowes of Grande Prairie, a former President of the AWNA from 1956-1957.
On Thursday, October 15, members of the media were invited to attend the 2009 Alberta Order of Excellence (AOE) Investiture Ceremony.
The Albertans invested into the Order were Shirzad Ahmed of Calgary, Henry Bergen of Coaldale, Bill Bowes of Grande Prairie, Helen Hengel of Calgary, Bernadette McDonald of Banff, Ken Sauer of Medicine Hat, Barrie Strafford of Calgary and Hal Wyatt of Calgary.
The ceremony took place from 4 – 5 p.m., Government House, 12845 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton.
The formal ceremony was presided over by the Hon. Norman L. Kwong, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Chancellor of the Order, and hosted by Dr. Robert Westbury, Chair of the Alberta Order of Excellence Council. Each new member was presented the AOE medal from the Lieutenant Governor.
The Alberta Order of Excellence is the highest honour the province has to offer its citizens. With the 2009 ceremony, total AOE membership will increase to 101. More information about the Order, including bios and photos of the new members, is at www.lieutenantgovernor.ab.ca/aoe
