Alberta Press Council Report for August
AWNA Alberta Press Council Report August 2010 was submitted by: Chris Brodeur , APC AWNA representative
Here are a few points from that Report. The full report will be available in the annual report at the AWNA convention in Calgary on Sept. 10, 11
On July 7, the executive secretary-treasurer and chair participated in a teleconference with the other Canadian press councils. All the other councils are doing a review similar to what Alberta is doing due to the big changes in the newspaper industry, (It was reported that Quebecor has pulled its newspapers out of the Quebec Press Council along with the 40% of the revenue it provided) (it didn’t like some of the press council rulings).
APC presented a written submission to the Standing Committee on Health – topic – FOIP. The APC has been invited to present in person on September 2, 2010. You may read the APC submission here as well as the others listed.
A short list of candidates to fill two vacant positions will be interviewed prior to the fall general meeting and the selected candidates will be approved at the fall meeting.
Member newspapers, which include all AWNA members, are encouraged to periodically print the APC notice, that the paper is an APC member and that the public may contact the APC if it is having difficulty resolving an issue with the newspaper.
