Sylvan Lake News

Michele Rosenthal has been appointed the new publisher of Sylvan Lake News and Eckville Echo, replacing the retiring Barry Hibbert who sold the newspapers in June.

Fred Gorman, president of Prairie Newspaper Group, which is owned by Victoria, B.C. based Black Press, made the announcement to staff last Wednesday.

Rosenthal will also continue her role as publisher of the Rimbey Review. She is looking forward to expanded role.

“I’m excited about joining the Sylvan Lake News team and producing a quality product. I want the Sylvan Lake News to continue to grow along with the community in which we serve. Readers and advertisers can expect to see some positive changes in the newspaper in the future, all of which will provide our readers with a top quality product,” said Rosenthal. She lives north of Sylvan and plans to be active in the community.

“I think Michele is a great choice,” said Hibbert. “She will serve the community and the newspaper well.” He’ll continue at the paper until about mid-December and invites friends to drop by and meet Rosenthal.

Rosenthal has worked for Black Press for the past five years, starting as a sales representative at the Rimbey Review and progressing to general manager and then publisher.

Prior to being employed with Black Press, Rosenthal worked in broadcasting media in the sales and promotions department in B.C.

She completed the advanced business management course at Sprott-Shaw Community College in Abbotsford, B.C. before moving to Alberta.

Rosenthal said her office door is always open and encourages everyone to stop by the Sylvan Lake News and say hello.
