The Lullaby Effectt Column Available
“Dear Editor:
My name is Steve Leskiw. I am a former teacher, coach, Professional Development Consultant, Personal Development Workshop facilitator and most recently, the Director of Admissions at a year-long, addictions treatment centre. Two decades ago, when anxiety raised its ugly head in my life, I shared some of that journey through a column in the Smoky Lake Signal. Readers still mention that sharing after these many years.
I have always loved to write but anxiety led me to abandon that love. Six years of working with addicts confirmed that long before we lose or abandon everything we once cherished – our marriages, relationships, children, careers, possessions and sense of self-worth and dignity, even our lives – we have already lost the most precious piece of that life, love.
Of the twelve-hundred plus applicants I interviewed and admitted to treatment, their primary health concern was not addiction – it was anxiety. Mental Health experts have suggested that anxiety and its many destructive faces cost the Canadian economy some 50 billion dollars annually. A recent Edmonton Journal article titled, “Sink or swim!” states that “Anxiety is the most common mental health issue in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males…” Amy Dickinson’s column in the October 18th edition of the Edmonton Sun carried this headline: “LOVE YOURSELF, FIRST – Woman is looking for love in all the wrong places.” Addicts learn this lesson the hard way.
What I’ve come to call The Lullaby Effectt with two (t’s) represents a unique and powerful lifeline for those readers dealing with the many faces of anxiety. Attached are the first four columns of The Lullaby Effectt. They are yours to discard or run as a trial without expense. Should you wish to continue using the column, the fifth will be waiting for your confirmation, and verification of your rate of remuneration.
I have no way of guaranteeing how long The Lullaby Effectt will be a part of your paper, but it addresses an issue that lives in the now. The alternative for someone who may never read this column is another hour, another day of dancing with anxiety, addiction, depression, suicidal ideation and the current dance craze, dancing with fentanyl.Four sample columns
