CAMacleanInternshipAWNA Member Newspapers interested in hiring an intern through the C.A. Maclean News Media Internship program?
Deadline: December 1, 2018 for members to apply.

All AWNA member newspapers that are in good standing are eligible to apply to participate in the internship program, with newspapers being chosen by lottery to host an intern.

Host newspaper(s) chosen by lottery to participate in the internship program will select their own intern from candidate application profiles supplied to them by the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association in conjunction with the C.A. MacLean Foundation committee. Host newspaper(s) are also able to include their own outsourced candidate profiles to the pool, outside of what has been provided by the AWNA, for selection. A candidate must be identified before funds will be approved for the program.

As a newspaper that has hosted an intern in previous summers, applying for the program was a no brainer. I encourage all AWNA members to apply. ~  George Blais, Publisher, Westlock News

Participating newspapers must agree to pay the intern $20 per hour (based on a 35 hour work week) for a 10-week period, which will be split 50/50 between the newspaper and program funding. The host newspaper is responsible for any applicable employment and payroll taxes and work related expenses, and the AWNA will contribute funding of $3500 at the conclusion of the internship, once the completion form is submitted and approved.

The first year of AWNA Internship Program was a huge success. The process with the AWNA was smooth and the student was a nice fit for our paper. Our intern elevated his work experience, while providing vacation relief for our staff. We look forward to taking part in the program in the future. ~ Mario Prusina, Publisher, Strathmore Times
