COVID-19 Crisis Information and Advertising Initiative

sent in by Tom Mihaly, publisher, High Level Echo

In a nutshell, thanks to our sponsors who are contributing $1000.00 per week for a three -week promotional run, we are offering subsidized ads at a low price to local businesses and community organizations to communicate with our readers. We are also sending out newspapers in bulk each week, so that every household in the communities we serve will receive a free newspaper during the promotion.

The launch is next week, Wednesday April 1, and I already have a minimum of $6000.00 per week in sponsorship and committed advertising. I am expecting that to climb by week two.

It’s not a great deal of cash for larger markets, however the model should draw more revenue in a greater population. It will help us in maintaining a publishing schedule for the short term. I have other ideas for the long run.

It’s fairly straightforward; however if you have any questions, please email me at:

Dennis adds some information about who might be a sponsor

Logical targets for sponsorship would be municipalities, counties, economic development authorities. Those are the most likely organizations to fund such an initiative. I would also approach any corporate entities in the area that are not regular advertisers. The oil & gas sector has been hammered as of late, so I would likely avoid those. But financial institutions are still doing pretty well. Any big employers in the area that don’t usually advertise, but employ lots of people who rely upon the services provided by the local businesses.
