All member newspapers are required to run Blanket Classifieds and Value Ads

I’ve noticed that some member newspapers have not been running blanket classifieds and/or value ads. I will be contacting these newspapers and performing some spot checks on other newspapers. If you’re not running these ads, please make sure that, moving forward, you will include them in your weekly newspaper. As part of a newspaper’s membership, all member newspapers are obliged to carry Blanket ads as well as Value ads. Please see below.

As part of a newspaper’s membership, all member newspapers are obliged to carry Blanket Classified advertisements and up to five (5) 2X2 Value Ads each week, as per AWNA’s bylaws under (3) Membership; Criteria for Regular Membership, as follows:

(D)      All members’ newspapers are obliged to carry Blanket Classified advertisements and up to five (5) ‘2 X 2’ display advertisements each week on behalf of the AWNA at no charge, except in cases where the subject matter of a particular advertisement does not conform, in its wording or form, to the policy of the member newspaper.

Blanket Classifieds:

  1. Blankets get uploaded each Thursday by noon to be run the following week. Members are responsible for checking this folder each week, downloading and running these ads – there are no reminders or insertion orders to accompany this program
  2. We upload the blankets as a “txt” file. Category headings are followed by ads in that category, all are formatted as separate paragraphs.
  3. Regarding placement in your papers: The ads can be run on a separate page in your newspaper or they can be incorporated into the rest of your word ads – whichever you prefer
  4. The blanket ads should run at the same font and font size as the rest of your word classifieds. They must NOT be at a smaller font size.
  5. You can upsell your own clients, and sell them into blanket classifieds and earn a commission on those sales. Some info and submission forms can be found here:http://www.awna.com/blanket-classified

Value Ads:

The Value Ad Network is part of the Blanket Classifieds program, and running them are a condition of membership.
Ads are uploaded at the end of Wednesday each week, to be run the following week. As with Blanket Classifieds Each newspaper is responsible for checking this folder each week and downloading the PDFs

  1. Each ad will be sent as a separate PDF file, but each PDF file will have two sizes of ad available. 3″ x 2″ and 3.75″ x 2″. We have determined that these two sizes are the closest match for providing ad copy that should work for all AWNA members.
  2. Use only the ad size that best matches your column width, but if your column widths dictate, please float the ad. Do not resize the ad or reduce the ad to fit.
  3. Members reserve the right to publish these ads as remnant space throughout the newspaper. This is your choice, there is no guaranteed positioning sold with Value Ads, so you may place them separately, or group them, in the news section, sports section, classifieds, wherever you have space. Many members run them with the Blanket Classifieds.
  4. Members are required to run ALL the value ads that are uploaded for any given week
  5. There are fill ads uploaded in weeks where no Value Ads have been sold. You are encouraged to run the fill ads but it is not required.

Again, as with Blanket Ads:
* No insertion orders will be sent out for these ads. Each newspaper is responsible for checking this folder each week and downloading the PDFs
* No tearsheets will be provided to the client.
* These ads are required to run. They are a part of the Blanket Classifieds program, and are a condition of membership.
* You can upsell your own clients, and sell them into value ads and earn a commission on those sales.
