President Lisa Sygutek’s David v. Goliath tale 

Alberta Views magazine has published a piece on AWNA President Lisa Sygutek’s lawsuit against Google that will hit the newsstands on May 1st.

The story begins with a January 2022 phone conversation between Lisa and Toronto lawyers Adil Abdulla and David Sterns, when she was Vice President of the AWNA.  It also delves into the state of small town journalism, particularly in Alberta.
 
Lisa’s lawsuit alleges that Google used its market power to take advantage of publishers and advertisers.  If successful, proceeds of the action will help both small and large newspapers in Canada.
