Disaster Planning for Newspapers – Have You?

The AWNA have been working to develop an association level Disaster Management and Recovery plan to ensure the many services we provide to both our members and clients can continue uninterrupted when the unexpected strikes.

Does your paper have a disaster recovery plan? If you do, when is the last time it was reviewed and updated? Do you know where it is? Does your staff? Now is the time to do something about it.

The AWNA is providing a Disaster Planning Checklist and a Disaster Management Workbook free to all members. We encourage you to download, print and complete both important documents today. http://www.awna.com/disasterplanning/

In addition we have collected both provincial and federal government websites that contain a wealth of related information. Learn how your community, the province, the military, the RCMP even the federal government’s many departments are prepared to respond and what to expect.

Take the time to prepare, your newspaper is worth it. As Sir Baden-Powell (founder of the Boy Scouts) said “A Scout is never taken by surprise; he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens.”
