AlbertaBlueCross®encourages Albertans to embrace the cold for Winter Walk Day
MEDIA RELEASE January 28, 2026
For immediate release
On Wednesday, February 4, tens of thousands of Albertans across the province will brave Alberta’s unique winter
with Winter Walk Day 2026.
“As a champion for wellbeing, Alberta Blue Cross is a longstanding sponsor of Alberta Winter Walk Day and we welcome Albertans across the province to come out and join us in this great initiative to promote active living even through the coldest months of the year,” says Brian Geislinger, senior vice-president of Corporate Relations and Community Engagement with Alberta Blue Cross.
All Albertans are encouraged to walk at least 15 minutes outside, enjoying the challenge as individuals, families, communities and workplaces. Winter Walk Day helps promote and inspire a healthy culture across Alberta with many schools, organizations and communities hosting group walks.
Winter Walk Day is a shared initiative of the Government of Alberta, SHAPE Alberta, Fitness Alberta, TrailNet, In Motion, Alberta Recreation and Parks Association, Ever Active Schools, Crestwood Community League, Nording Walking Group, Alberta Blue Cross and Alberta Motor Association. Last year, over 145,000 people registered for Winter Walk Day with SHAPE Alberta. Participants are encouraged to register online at https://shapeab.ca/winter-walk-day/ and to share the experience on social media using the hashtag #WinterWalkDay.
