‘Who Needs Newspapers’ aims to create an informed, multimedia snapshot of the U.S. newspaper industry in a period of transition and to discover what newspapers are doing to reposition themselves in the digital news and information era.  The project is also documenting what’s at stake for each newspaper’s community.

Beginning June 15, 2010, Paul Steinle and Sara Brown began conducting in-depth video interviews and gathering background data from publishers, editors and online managers at U.S. newspapers of varied circulation size, ownership, and publishing frequency. Their intent is to visit one newspaper in each of the 50 states by summer 2011.
