Sun Media affirms its support of AWNA
The AWNA is pleased to announce that it has worked cooperatively with Sun Media to assure its continued involvement in the association. We have worked out an arrangement regarding the placement of advertising in Sun Media’s 32 AWNA titles, as a follow-up to the company’s decision to serve its advertising clients through its national sales office – QMi Sales.
Sun Media and the AWNA have agreed upon a list of accounts that will be placed through QMi, commencing April 1, 2012. This is to offer efficiencies to advertising accounts that are national in nature and use Sun Media properties in other parts of Canada. The AWNA will continue to place advertising in Sun Media titles on behalf of advertisers that are regional in nature, such as the Alberta Government. Sun Media has agreed to allow AWNA to levy a higher service fee on ad placements to help the association to defray its cost of providing marketing services to their newspapers, such as the planning tools provided by AdWest.
The AWNA and AdWest will continue to provide data on Sun Media titles to aid advertisers in planning and executing their campaigns, regardless of whether or not the actual placement is made through QMi or AWNA. Our planning tools such as Market Analyzer will still include information on Sun Media newspapers.
AWNA staff is working diligently to facilitate advertising placements in the most seamless way possible for our clients. To this end, we are working closely with Mr. Gordon Norrie, Executive V.P., Western Operations, Sun Media.
The AWNA Board has approved this decision and assures all members that there will be no financial ramifications to member newspapers as a result.
