Details on ‘Community builders’ session confirmed
This session is being offered on Saturday, June 14 10:30 – Noon
Award-winning international speaker Ian Hill, one of North America’s foremost ‘community builders’, will lead a 90-minute session on Saturday morning that will focus upon the vital role that community newspapers play in their communities. Describing the local newspaper as “the hub from which all other things spring”, Ian will discuss how the local paper’s community involvement can build a brand in the community. “It boils down to community voice, community connectedness and leadership,” according to Hill.
Hill launched the ‘Becoming a Community Builder’ program in rural Alberta in the fall of 2013. The professional leadership development program aims to build rural Alberta one leader at a time. ‘Becoming a Community Builder’ aims to inspire individuals to become their own catalyst for positive change in their communities – motivating grassroots initiatives and individuals to take ownership of their communities.
Originally offered in Wood Buffalo as a pilot project, the Community Builder program has since been introduced to the communities of Two Hills, Veteran, Consort, Hanna, Strathmore, Nanton, Pincher Creek, Waterton, Ponoka and Lacombe.
