Minister Searle Turton will join global leaders in Sydney, Australia, for the largest conference on women’s shelters and ending gender-based violence.
The minister will attend the 5th World Conference of Women’s Shelters to learn more about effective policies, programs and practical solutions from around the world. This international forum presents a unique opportunity to gain insights into global best practices from leading experts and strengthen relationships with international and domestic organizations to support future collaboration and innovation.
“Alberta is committed to ensuring families experiencing violence have access to safe and responsive supports when and where they need it. Participating in this global conference allows us to learn from international leaders and ensure that we continue to lead in our renewed women’s shelter approach.”
Searle Turton, Minister of Children and Family Services
Australia is recognized internationally as a leader in family violence prevention.
Given shared demographic characteristics such as rural and urban populations and
Indigenous communities, Alberta stands to benefit from the connection and
knowledge exchange with Australian counterparts.
The minister will be joined by one staff member and take meetings outside the
conference in alignment with Government of Alberta and Children and FamilyServices’ broader priorities. Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and
expense disclosure page.
