FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 14th, 2026

Seniors for Climate, a national grassroot group led by seniors aged 60 and plus, will invite Canadians across the country to have their say on climate issues during the 2026 Canadian Environmental Week in early June. Last year climate-concerned citizens in over seventy-five communities, including seven in Alberta, and two each in Saskatchewan and the Territories participated in a wide range of volunteer-led activities to raise public awareness and spur government action.

Urgent action is needed by governments at all levels to combat the effects of global warming, which is responsible for the wildfires, floods, air and water pollution caused by human industrial activity. The health and quality of life of future generations is at risk.

Seniors For Climate will host community picnics, climate cafes, neighbourhood walk-and-talks, open mic storytelling, music events and many other kinds of opportunities all aimed at inviting Canadians of all ages to have their say on how the changing climate affects them and how they want to fix the problem.

Says Brian Patterson, Seniors For Climate spokesperson: “The vast majority of Canadians are really worried by what they’re seeing but are silent for a lot of reasons. We’ll give them all kinds of welcoming ways to express themselves. Then we’ll gather up what we hear and share it with our politicians who have the power to act.”

Local community groups are invited to join the conversation by hosting their own similar events. Let’s get everyone talking!
