Member News: Martyn Godfrey Award 2009 deadline for submissions
The Young Alberta Book Association proudly presents the Martyn Godfrey Young Writers Award. Martyn Godfrey was a teacher and a children’s book author who wrote more than 40 books that tickled the funny bone of many young readers. Martyn passed away in 2000 but his legacy of humorous stories lives on with this award thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association.
Albertan students in grades 7, 8 and 9 are invited to submit their humorous stories to YABS by May 22nd 2009. Submissions must be 500 to 1500 words in length and two winners will be chosen by juried decision. Winners will receive a trip to a young writers camp in Alberta, and a free author presentation for their schools during the Taleblazers Festival in October.
