Journalism tax credit details still to be determined
The 2019 federal budget outlined a 25-per-cent refundable tax credit on salary or wages paid to eligible newsroom employees of qualifying QCJOs (Qualified Canadian Journalism Organizations).
An independent panel is working with government to finalize the details before the program is rolled out. We’ll share information on the QCJO process once we have it.
We do know that members that already receive Aid to Publishers (ATP) funding are not eligible for the journalism tax credit. Members that are not recipients of the ATP should be eligible for this program provided they are QCJO’s. Since a majority of AWNA’s members do not receive ATP funding, we expect that this new government program will have a significant impact on our industry.
