Newspaper Public Notice Campaign
The Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association has prepared this public information campaign to remind readers and local governments why newspapers continue to offer the best method of public notice delivery.
Bill 20 – the Municipal Government Amendment Act – was given third reading in the Legislature March 24, 2015. It gives Alberta municipalities the option to pass an advertising bylaw that allows them to simply post public notices on their websites.
Government relations chair Dave Bruha, his committee, and AWNA’s Julie Anne McRae have prepared this series of notices reminding readers and municipalities of the importance of using audited, verified, and accountable newspapers to convey this important information to Albertans.
The campaign is in response to the actions of a few Alberta municipalities who wish to opt for alternative methods to present public notices.
The public information notices are offered on a voluntary basis.
