The AWNA Board of Directors approved a payment of $50,000 to member newspapers at a meeting held in Drumheller on August 31st.  Newspapers that were members in good standing as of August 1st will receive their cheques in the mail (or via EFT) within the next few weeks.

This payment is to help members defray the cost of blanket classified and value ads published on the Association’s behalf throughout the year.

The AWNA has managed to record a surplus on its operations during the year through curbing its costs and realizing better than expected revenue from the new Value Ad program.

This change in fortune has also come about because of the sacrifices AWNA members have made in helping the association get back on a solid financial footing, most notably by agreeing to an increase to four percent (from two percent) in the national ad placement fee.

We (the board) made this decision as a way to give back to members who have supported us through some tough times, said President Murray Elliott.
